We arrived at El Cairo on first november beliving found a lot of tourist and a big hot. But in a few days of trip we are atonished to climb alone on a some of the more beautiful places. The changing land, beside the Nile river. Chamging the palm forest trees with the huge sand lands of the empty region of the Lybia desert. Our idea were explore new boulder areas. With my two years old soon is really difficult try to open mew climbing pitches, then me and my wife dediced take only tyhe crash pad. The first incursions on the Lybia desert show us a huge wildland habited for sandstone boulders. The big area among the oasis region have few but good possibilities. from Safraga to Siwa the desrt's color change like the stone. We follow straigh south, to Nubia region. In Aswan could climb on a very good spots. The impressive wiews and colors of Nile, shinning in front of the dunes with the little boats dancing over its blue waters are ne of the better panoramas climbing on the rock. Here there are many ggod areas of sandstone. Some of them in the desert, but other in the little islands of the river. You can take one falua and sailing to your decided boulders enjoying of the nubian people. Really a good place where you can climb and walk alone. Far of the tourist mass. On the convoi we search the Sudan border. Went to Abu simbel and from there we explore the Nubia desert. Really a empty region, with difficulties to move with freedom by the proximities with the disputed border of Sudan. We stayed alone, among the sand and the erosioned pinnacles. Only disturbed for the wind songs and the full moon reflected on the Nasser lake. Crossing the Suez Gulf and sailing to Dahab our feet step the Sinai penninsula. The land of the Israel people. Where the first climber of history redpointed a big mountain. Moises crossed this lonely lands many time ago. But I am sure that the emptiness and the silence of the center of Sinai is the same that him found. The sand camps are broken by brutal, wind carved walls of excellent granite. The high lands of Sinai have a great potential for multipitch routes as well as to little dificult crags. We became to try the boulders and we belive in God. Big camps of huge boulders are in the desert land. Many of them near the little beduine town. Six days here and we get redpoints of many problems of Jonh Arran (Who was there two years ago), very good problems on a boulders very similars to Hampi or Joshua. But our eyes look at the work of the wind. The sculpted and carved round boulders. Some times with an height like hardgrits. Some times really easy to enjoy a vertical walk. But some times very step, overhanged, roofs. Everyone better than the last. Is really a alchemy land on the ritual af climbing is the less important. You melt with the wildlife and the emptiness of the wonderful of this magic landscape. We climbed more than 30 new problems and repeat the mostly Arran's boulders -really a quality work- . The more difficult redpoints were: RITUAL V11, ALCHEMY V10 As Salam to Egypt, As Salam to this wonderful people, As Salam to the magic of the light, the wind, the moon, the sea,....the desert, AS SALAM TO THE BEDUINES, THE LORDS OF THE SAND jORDI TOSAS |
